- I decided to change careers to further boost my skills in the real estate industry.
- I used to work in the real estate division of a railway company. I was in charge of large-scale mixed-use development projects in front of stations, but I decided to change jobs to gain more practical knowledge of real estate. I chose Mitsubishi Corporation Urban Development because I thought I could gain a lot of experience from a young age at a company that focuses on large-scale urban development and has an income-producing real estate business at its core, from the purchase of land to its sale in a short span of time. After joining the company, I was placed in the Urban Development Department, where I could utilize my previous experience. I was surrounded by friendly people and a well-established support system that made joining smooth. For the Expo '70 Commemorative Park project, a huge undertaking, I am in charge of developing hotels and commercial facilities, communicating with design firms, general contractors, and prospective tenants to create even better plans. The centerpiece of the project is one of the largest arenas in western Japan. Our business partner is Anschutz Entertainment Group, Inc. (AEG), one of the world's largest live entertainment companies, so we are also considering hosting concerts by global artists. Understanding social needs and striving to create top-tier entertainment gives me a great sense of reward.
- Clearly define your values when choosing a company.
- What I strive for in my work is to have opinions of my own while not imposing them on others. Especially when working with an international company like AEG, cultural and business practices can differ. Respecting the opinions of others while communicating and discussing things is vital. I believe the same is true within Mitsubishi Corporation Urban Development. In the Urban Development Dept., we hold an off-site meeting once a year, and last year we undertook efforts to foster mutual understanding of each member's background, personality, and judgment criteria as a teambuilding exercise. There are regular company events, making this an environment where everyone, from new graduates to mid-career hires, can find a sense of belonging both at the company and in their work. Job hunting and changing jobs are significant life events, and what is most important is your own set of values. For new graduates in particular, I think it is vital to clarify what you value in work, such as work-life balance, the size of the company, and its future potential. I have always used whether I can do the things I want to do as a compass for choosing a company. As a result, I am involved in dynamic work that leverages the Mitsubishi Group's network and allows me to be proactively engaged in initiatives regardless of seniority. In urban development, it is crucial to understand not only real estate knowledge but global trends as well. I want to extend our reach externally and achieve projects that will leave a legacy for the future.
